There are so many different clubs and student groups within MHS! One is the Concert Chorus group. Full chorus meets on Thursdays and Fridays, with each section meeting one additional day a week. Each time the chorus meets, the group warms up, discusses different musical concepts/skills, and works on learning songs. The group performs in both the winter and spring concert series. This is a great chance for students to become stronger singers, performers, and team members.
There are a few other choral groups connected to chorus. The Madrigals singers are the honors chorus and they meet on Mondays. They are a smaller group who get to work on more advanced pieces, as well as going caroling during the holidays! There also is an Acapella club open to anyone who wants to join! Acapella is entirely student-led, with three senior presidents. The group meets about twice a week, voting on songs, teaching each other song arrangements, and performing at various school events throughout the year.
Each of these choral groups are enjoyable aspects of maynard music that are open to all students! Lily Waguespack, the current Chorus president, an Acapella president, and Madrigal Singer had this to say about MHS choral groups: “The music community in Maynard, and especially in our school system is so rich and talented. The choral program is just another great way for people to get involved, and quite literally share their voice. There are so many options, all filled with incredible students. Joining chorus was one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I now have the honor of serving as president. I highly encourage others to join if they want to be a part of a community that is supportive, enriching, and welcoming!”
